Reasons Facebook Fans Leave And How To Keep Them

When it comes to the behaviour of Facebook users, it is important to establish why people “unlike” business pages and how marketers can avoid this happening.

We need to determine how best to deliver the company’s brand message and turn the situation around, while establishing why fans are “unfollowing” in the first place.

With this in mind, here are three reasons that your fans could be leaving you:

1. The Brand Isn’t Interesting Anymore

The main reason user unlike a page on Facebook is because the brand was no longer of interest to them. You may, for example, have nothing to offer the fan anymore.

You need to therefore establish how to get their attention. Studies are said to have found that over 90 percent of people pay attention to the brand message when they are interacting with activities that offer them an incentive. That being said, not every message has to be a giveaway. You need to simply show the user that incentives will be on a regular basis, as this will make the user want to keep watching to see what comes next.

2. Fans Feel They Are Being Spammed

A survey carried out claimed that 36 percent of respondents unliked a brand as they felt they heard from them too much. That being said, users from different countries have different wishes in terms of how often they are happy to receive messages, so this is a not a cut-and-dried situation.  Fans in Turkey have been said to want to hear from you more often than users in the U.K., France and Germany.

It is important to avoid annoying consumers, and remember that no matter where your fans are from, the message you are sending is much more important than how often you are posting. If a post does not offer anything of value to your fans then you should consider why you are posting it. It is not necessary to simply keep a message in your feed in order to fill up room. You need to establish a good balance between posting to increase your ranking and posting to keep your readers interested.

3. Fans Were Not Genuine From The Start

When you first launch your Facebook page, it would have been a particularly important time to win over lots of fans. Incentives such as free gifts may well have been a big part of this. This would then possibly make consumers begin to expect freebies all the time. These may well be consumers who are not genuine fans as such, but just looking out for what items they can get from your brand for free.

One method of maintaining the fans you got from the initial launch is to pay attention to them, monitor and analyse them etc. Determine how they discovered you and who they are etc. Posting interesting content only on a monthly basis etc., will not keep many users interested.

Appropriately timed good quality content, incentives, keeping in mind cultural differences, and other factors, are all very important in order to stop your fans from leaving you. You need to establish a method that works for your brand, while making sure you stay flexible enough to adapt it as and when it is required of you.
