On-the-Go Comparison Shopping

On-the-go comparison shopping is becoming more and more frequent and the release of Nextag’s brand new iPad App can only help to make this more popular. The application is free of charge and features the main benefits of Nextag’s online price comparison website services. This will help to give iPad users “the tools they need to save while at home or on the go”, according to Nextag’s press release.

The evolving trend of shoppers checking for better or cheaper deals online while physically being in a store and viewing a product is beginning to catch on with pace. In fact, in a survey conducted by Pricegrabber last month, the percentage of smartphone owners who had used their phones to check prices had increased from 16 per cent in 2009 to 22 per cent this year.

The consumers’ ability to check competitors prices not just at home but in the store too is starting to encourage retailers to think outside the box in terms of their pricing strategies and marketing ventures. Siva Kumar, co-founder and chief exec of TheFind.com (a shopping search site) analyses that retailers will “try to obfuscate the direct price comparison” by offering goods that others don’t sell or creating bundles of products. He also suggests that retailers are more ready and willing than ever to match prices in an instant.

With more apps on devices such as the iPad/iPhone becoming available making on-the-go price comparison easier, more consumers checking competitors prices while in stores can certainly be expected over the coming year. High-street retailers must now become more price conscious than ever before and need to implement shrewd and well-planned strategies in order to tempt leads into making a purchase.
