We frequently hear about the main social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and a vast amount of people are familiar with these sites which are widely used for social media optimisation. However there are some other social media sites that you may not yet have discovered or signed up to. These sites can have a number of uses so we have listed some of them for you:-
Audioboo:-
Audioboo could be described as an audio version of Twitter. This site enables you to record and share your thoughts or information in an audio format wherever you may be in the world. This can be done easily using an app on a smart-phone which then enables you to share the information on the web within seconds. However, non smart-phone users can also upload sound files easily by using a web browser. In addition, the audio can be edited to your taste prior to upload.
Diaspora:-
Diaspora is considered to be a more private rival to Facebook. It allows you to share your photos and information only with the people you choose, which is unique to this site. Sharing is very simple and private, preventing the need to look through multiple settings etc. to keep the profile to your requirements. One slight drawback is that the site does not currently support Internet Explorer which may affect Diaspora from reaching its potential.
Dopplr:-
Dopplr makes planning travel much easier. The site allows you to share your travel itineraries with people of your choice in order to spot any overlaps in your travels. It also provides advice and support from other travellers in order to provide an insight into what to avoid and what to go to see or do.
Ipadio has similarities to Audioboo and is a useful tool for helping with creating audio blogs, or “Phlogs.” Phlogs can be put on your site or you can lead visitors to your personal Ipadio site where they can see your most recent postings. The phlogs can be edited and organized to your personal taste and uploaded very fast and easily. The audio files can be uploaded using a web browser or by pin-enabled telephone access.
Jumo:-
Jumo was created by a co-founder of Facebook and was launched relatively recently. The site is designed to allow its users to find, follow and support causes that are of interest to them. It already has in excess of 3,000 organizations involved and is likely to become one of the most talked about social media tools this year.
WhoHub:-
WhoHub allows you to invite other people to answer a series of questions based upon your interests and knowledge. An interview can be created for free in order to build up an online Q&A for you. You are able to link to any other presence you have on the internet, such as blogs or a work portfolio, thus making your position stronger on search engines. The site provides a great way to promote yourself as it gives you the chance to make contact with other professionals in order to share experiences or work together on projects.
