The InvisibleHand is a money saving tool which, after trial runs on Firefox and Chrome, is now being made available on Internet Explorer. It is essentially a free real-time tool which automatically finds consumers cheaper prices during their online shopping. For example, if a user is viewing a product on an e-commerce website, InvisibleHand works behind the scenes and alerts the user if it has found that the product is available for a cheaper price elsewhere. This could be viewed as serious competition to the standard price comparison sites such as Kelkoo, Shopping.com, PriceGrabber and NexTag.
The founder of InvisibleHand Robin Landy has suggested that it “has already found over £7 million of savings for online shoppers.” He goes on to suggest that consumers could cut their online shopping costs by 30% a year. Other tools recently released include Shopping.com’s iPhone app which allows shoppers who are on the go the chance to price check products that they are browsing in the hope that they can find a cheaper deal elsewhere. The onus is on the major price comparison sites to remain innovative and not to rest on their laurels or else they could get caught out by savvy upstarts like InvisibleHand.
