Google is set about redesigning and trailing new features on the Google Images Platform. According to Google “…on Google Images, image-based ads provided greater results for our advertisers.” As you can see in the image below Image Search Ads include a thumbnail alongside the ad text.
This is set to be expanded further by trailing rich media leaderboard units. These leaderboard units will appear above Google Image search results as shown below.
Display ads are placed on pages on the Google Display Network by associating the content of the web page to Keywords, Placements or Categories selected within the ad groups. In the case of Google Images, Display ads will be triggered based on the category of the search term a user enters.
