Advertisers Look Outside Facebook and Twitter

Filed in Industry Metrics , Social Media 0 comments

Social network marketing is now considered essential for the majority of brands, and marketers are planning to expand their investment in social media adverts.

A survey carried out estimated that 80% of companies which have a minimum of 100 employees carried out marketing activities on social networks this year. Fewer are advertising on social networks, but the number is increasing. Further research showed that 2/3 of marketers surveyed were currently carrying out social media advertising activities and nearly 20% more of them planned to do so in the following year. Over half of those currently running adverts were satisfied with them.

Due to the success of these efforts so far, combined with the constant growth of the number of users of social networking sites, could be encouraging advertisers to develop their plans to further social sites.

Facebook and Twitter currently dominate, with over nine in ten people respondents having campaigns on Facebook and nearly 80% on Twitter. However, advertising on other social media sites such as YouTube, LinkedIn and foursquare is looking likely to grow. At least a fifth of the survey respondents stated that they would start campaigns on these sites in the following year.

Facebook’s offerings were rated excellent to good by the majority of the respondents. No other site got such great praise. This could change as Twitter is expected to bring out more products this year. Social networks that are lagging behind will need to do more for advertisers. Social networks that want to push uptake of their paid products may have to do more to increase their visibility. Also marketers may need more education with regards to social advertising.
