5 Ways To Use Promoted Tweets To Get Noticed

Twitter can now boast about audience figures of approximately 100 million and 1.6 billion search queries every day. However, despite having access to a massive amount of individuals, many advertisers struggle to find the most successful way of connecting with the site’s users.

Promoted Tweets are ordinary tweets that are bought by advertisers who want to reach out to a larger group of users or to encourage engagement among the followers they already have. They are an efficient way to use Twitter for marketing your brand. Promoted Tweets are displayed initially as normal tweets but advertisers can then promote these tweets in order to encourage extra discussions. Advertisers pay for them to appear at the top of appropriate search pages.

While these tweets are labeled clearly as “promoted”, in every other way these tweets are the same as all the other millions of tweets generated every day on Twitter. In other words they can be re-tweeted and replied to etc.

Promoted Tweets need to be used with care, as Twitter users tend to ignore Promoted Tweets if they consider them to be too pushy or sales-orientated. With this in mind here are five tips for using Promoted Tweets in such a way that they will improve your brand’s visibility:

1. Learn The Basics Of Twitter

It is important that you familiarise yourself with the basics of the site before you think about embarking on a Promoted Tweets campaign. Use it for a while to determine what kinds of content works well with your followers.

Once you have a good idea of Twitter, you can then begin experimenting with Promoted Tweets at the correct times, i.e. where traffic levels are at very high volumes e.g. after a massive news story, your Promoted Tweets may get lost in the story.

2. Promote Interesting Content

Ensure that the content you are promoting is interesting and not too pushy and all about sales. Use Promoted Tweets as a start of a long and engaging discussion. Remember you will need to continue tweeting interesting content on a regular basis so that your followers carry on receiving frequent updates on your promotions and messages.

3. Use Six Different Tweets At Once

When it comes to Promoted Tweet campaigns, Twitter recommends using up to six tweets in rotation, with all of them aimed towards one particular landing page. By having six tweets active at once, you can play around with the messaging and offer extra information regarding your campaign when you couldn’t have got the whole message across in the 140 characters limit.

4. Keep Monitoring

Marketers should not just set up Promoted Tweets and then forget about them. Make sure you keep a regular check on them and ensure you analyse the impact it is having.

5. Don’t Rush To Jump On A Topic

While it may seem tempting to jump straight onto a hot topic as an easy way to get attention, you should think carefully first. Sometimes these kinds of conversations can take a turn for the worst and cause your brand to get caught up in it all. Ensure you carefully consider all the potential consequences of jumping onto a topic that is trending at the time.
