5 Big Facebook Changes

Filed in Social Media , Top Tips 0 comments

Facebook is currently rolling out important changes in reaction to growing competition. These changes will affect everyone in some way, whether they are constantly using the social media site or are the type of user that only logs on once in a while.

1. People Who Are Not Friends Will Be Able To Subscribe To Your Updates

This is a change that is very popular with some users, and very unwelcome with other users. This involves you now having the ability to share your updates with the public whilst not having to share all of your profile information.

The new ability to share your updates with the public via a new “subscribe” button is being rolled out. However, if you are more interested in your privacy status, now is the time to update your privacy settings.

2. New Look Privacy Settings

Facebook’s recent privacy changes provide well-timed updates that allow users to change their settings quicker and more easily than in the past. The default options, “Everyone”, have been renamed as “Public”, and settings can be personalised within individual posts or by using the more sleek and modern Privacy Settings interface.

3. 25 Fans No Longer Needed To Get A Custom Page URL

Previously, an important inconvenience for Facebook page managers was the need to wait to build up the 25 fans that were necessary to create a custom page URL once a page had been created. These extensions go quickly, and it can be very frustrating to watch some of the best matches for your brand disappear while you work to build up your fan base. However, this has now changed and the option to choose a vanity URL is yours.

4. Email Summaries Substitute Excess Notifications

If you use Facebook for work, then real-time notifications are essential. However, if you are a user who has been irritated by too many Facebook notifications in the past, this change in terms of simple email summaries will benefit you.

5. Facebook Finally Gets it Right with Lists

Google+ users will probably have noticed how useful lists can be when they’re well created. Facebook has followed in Google’s footsteps and made massive changes to its list functionality. These lists allow more precise filtering and targeted posting among other good options.

This could be seen as one of the social media giant’s most significant group of changes we’ve witnessed in some time, so it should be interesting to see what the site comes up with next.
